On The Blink - Short Film

Logline:

A young man time travels to save his mom in a world where loss is inevitable.

Synopsis:

At his mother's funeral, Sam Reyes, a gentle 26-year-old Filipino employee of a Toronto startup, discovers his ability to time travel to the past with a single blink. Feeling guilty about not being there for his mom in the last five years since he moved out, he travels back to make the decision to stay. Successfully making up lost time with his mom, it all changes when he must confront how loss is still inevitable and that every decision must bear a consequence.

DIRECTOR / PRODUCER / WRITER / EDITOR

Jed Kevin Perada is a Filipino-Canadian director and editor based in Toronto. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Production from Toronto Metropolitan University, he is now interning at global editorial boutique Outsider Editorial. On The Blink is his first short film, in which he explores themes of forgiveness, embracing change, and the intricacies of immigrant family relations.


PRODUCER

Dan Bener is a writer, producer, and sound mixer with an extensive background in multiple aspects of video production. He is currently based in Toronto and recently graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University with a degree in Media Production. On the Blink is the first project Dan has produced. He is currently producing additional short films that are in production in Toronto.

DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Charlie Grosvenor is a Toronto-based cinematographer from Vancouver, BC. A recent graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s Media Production program, he works in narrative fiction, documentaries, music videos, and commercials. Charlie's approach to On The Blink was to create strong visuals that elicit feelings of nostalgia for the viewer.

CAST

Ethan Akler’s (Sam Reyes) passion for acting started in theatre camp as a child, and has continued to flourish ever since. He is thrilled to star in the Filipino based film On the Blink, directed by Jed Kevin Perada. Being half-Filipino, he is grateful to be a part of Filipino storytelling. Most recently, he starred in the short film Tonight You Will Shine, which was screened at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival and the San Diego Filipino Film Festival. In addition to acting, Ethan also enjoys singing and is part of the Toronto Metropolitan University acappella group, Resonate.

Baverley Sabio (Angela Reyes) is a Filipino performer and nurse based in Toronto who discovered her passion for acting and singing during her childhood in the Philippines. As a recording artist in gospel and Christian contemporary music, she has showcased her vocal talents with various groups across Canada and internationally. She has released both a solo album and collaborated with different groups. Baverley makes her acting debut in the short film On The Blink.

Rianna Persaud (Alex) is a creator and performer from Ottawa, with over a decade of training in a variety of vocal and theatrical styles. Persaud is a recent graduate of Randolph College for the Performing Arts where she trained in all three disciplines of Musical Theatre Performance. Since graduating, she has devoted her time to her writing and directing. She relishes any opportunity to collaborate with other queer, BIPOC artists and hopes to amplify the voices of marginalised communities with her work. Ina Rafdel (Tita Love) is a Filipino performer and nurse based in Toronto. She discovered her passion for acting through church and school plays during her teenage years. Currently, she sings gospel and contemporary Christian music, performing solo and with ensembles at various churches, on digital platforms, and with vocal groups like Sycamore. Ina makes her acting debut in the short film On The Blink.
